Williston School Academic Collaborations & Investigations - CASA K12 Outreach

On March 31st, 2009, CASA gave a series of presentations and organized a number of interactive activities during a half-day event at the Williston School in Massachusetts. Paula Rees spoke with 7th and 8th graders about water resources and climate change. CASA graduate students Anthony Hopf, Jorge Trabal, and Jorge Salazar spoke with students about radars and solar power and conducted an activity with the 9th grade students using solar kits. Michael Zink talked to older students about Computer Science and networked systems. This activity reached around 150 students and 12 teachers. The Williston School and CASA are interested in creating a longer-term partnership.

"The chance to participate in the Williston School Climate something was a wonderful experience that not only allowed me to discuss the CASA's multi-disciplinary research in the context of climate change, but also to get middle school students excited about Engineering, a topic that wasn't introduced to me until the end of high school," Anthony Hopf.
