Distributing the MC&C.
The Meteorological Command and Control software (MC&C) lies at the very heart (or perhaps more appropriately, the “brains”) of CASA’s concept of distributed, collaborative sensing of the atmosphere. The MC&C performs the system’s main control loop – ingesting data from remote radars, identifying meteorological features in this data, making features available for presentation to end-users, and optimizing each radar’s future scan strategy based on detected features and end-user requirements. CASA researchers have developed a distributed architecture for the MC&C, where feature detection, feature repositories, task generation and optimization are each fully distributed, operating at any number of network nodes. This allows the MC&C to scale to radar networks with a large number of nodes, and provides fault-tolerance.
